Tuesday

sick day.

a trip to the doctors this afternoon not only gave me an early release from classes but also a free day off tomorrow & despite the fact that i really am truly sick sick sick; i am determined to enjoy my lovely free day to its absolute fullest.

in which i plan on spending first by sleeping in & then waking up to the delicious looking cinnamon roll mum picked up for me at the bakery today, then ill give my nails a much needed varnish, finally sit & read the glossies i picked up in ny [uk elle & purple], make a pot of my favourite vanilla citrus rose tea from teany & fully lose myself in goldfrapp's just released itunes original album [lovely cover, no?] before perhaps rewatching the dreamers for the third time this week & adding a few new things to my ever going birthday list. & of course ill be checking up on thefashionspot/blogs, returning comments & maybe even getting a head start on a few new posts for later this week...

ah, i love sick days.

Sunday

oh, to be a modern girl.

"let's take a ride
through the city, see it come to life, uh-huh
straight through the light
i'll be standing my ground
till the light's out, lock the door

got to be a modern girl
to live inside a modern world
always be calm, be cool and collected"

i thought this gave at least a slight nod to miss murphy;
vintage dress & gloves, thrifted belt & f21 heels.
now if only i can find a hat like this - it will be perfect.
oh yes, & i will be in much need of a straightener as well.

Thursday

tophats + feathered sleeves + mustard booties.

who else but roisin murphy?

its about bloody time WWW featured someone with actual style, not that i really care what that positively cringe-worthy "fashion" website has to offer but it was nice to see a familiar fashionable face pop up when i checked it purely out of boredom today.

& what perfect timing too! that shes their GOTM (girl of the month) for october; quite fittingly also my birthday month, in which i have just been informed that my major present this year will not only be a road trip to a lykke li show, it will also be another weekend rush up to nyc (!) for roisin murphys first american concert - ever held at mansion only a week following said birthday.

how very, very exciting!

ive had my outfit picked for weeks, just dreaming of getting to attend one of her shows.
& now its happening.

shall i share next post, then?

love, A.

Wednesday

sorry, i already had plans.

that is if you can call coursework - plans.
this is the party i missed because im sadly still a student living in suburbia.
& ironically booked my flight a week too early.

soon enough, no? that coveted zip code will be mine.

Monday

je ne sais quoi.

i saw the most amazing woman last weekend while flea marketing in nyc.

i noticed her first at hells kitchen, at the very first stall we stopped at; buying some of the most amazing vintage jewllery i had ever seen. she stood out from her group of friends
& had the loveliest british accent. "cheers doll" i heard her say.
i ran into her multiple times, rummaging away through the same stalls as me,
always finding the best things first.

she was likely in her thirties & wore the tightest pair of leather tights, with a slouchy sheer black alexander wang/row-esque tee & the kind of insane booties you only see in magazines.
she reminded me of kate lanphear. she had the hair, although it was a bit longer & more flowy.

i could not take my eyes off her. she was just too cool. it was nearly 90 degrees; i felt like a complete mess, burning up in my aa bandage skirt & gladiator flats & here she was in all black,
in heels & looked the picture of perfection.

she was everything i want to be & when i saw her again (all the way down in chelsea) at the other flea market we had on our must stop list - i knew i had to say something & i even thought to take a photo but as soon as i had gathered the courage she had stomped away - the best dressed woman i had ever seen in new york - fabulous items in tow,
back into the blazing sunlight.

Friday

i was invited.

on sunday by one of the owners, when i picked up this insane pair of vintage boots.
she remembered me from last time, because apparently
i always buy their tiniest pairs of shoes.

too bad i couldnt postpone my plane for another week.
but if you happen to find yourself wandering about the lower east side on saturday -
definitely drop by. i heard they are having some amazing sales.

Thursday

roisin + zoo.

Shot in a community center somewhere in north London, next to peeling council estates and with no other background music than bird song, there was none of the usual Viktor & Rolf threads, scandalous poses or flamboyant makeup. It was just Róisín Murphy, naturally stripped down, exposing the person behind the performer extraordinaire shield. But Murphy says she enjoyed it, calling the photo shoot "meditating, introspective and quieting".

i am back. slightly depressed, but back.
it all went by too fast. im thinking i should just become a goldfrapp groupie.

ps, spotted at bryant park - behati & coco!

wonderful electric.

my plane leaves tomorrow morning.

the polaroid, diana +, subway map, frapp costume, tickets, little black book, glossies, makeup & such are all packed. now if only i could decide what to wear for three lovely (rainy) days in nyc & not to mention what to wear to a possible brief encounter
with alison goldfrapp herself...ee.

decisions, decisions.

a full in depth review will follow soon. think something along the lines of last time but longer & better
