uptown, downtown.

it wouldn't be new york without the uptown, where chic ways and cool sophistication reside. with the urbanity and throughbred vanity, the couture and the demure and the delightfully colorful insanity that runs in the family trees. we're too rich and too thin. and we like our gin. we're old school, blue blood, clubby and crusty and hoity-toity too. it wouldn't be new york without downtown, where all the freaks and geeks and madcaps swarm. where bohemians buzz and beats flee the fuzz and punkies and drunkies still rub elbows with junkies, all for the sake for art. we're the new school, and we play the fool, and we'll go to the opening of a door. we're avant and proud, maybe a little bit loud, but it wouldn't be our party unless it was chichi and arty.

run through the moss on high heels.

one rainy afternoon listening to fever ray, röyksopp & sébastien tellier blurring my consciousness on repeat & sixty dollars out of my savings later & ive got a parcel heading my way.

i couldnt resist those faux alex wang booties.
i think it was this photo of dree hemingway that did it.
& the thought of how perfectly they would go with my favourite american apparel leather leggings & my new oxford blue mens buttondown.

the floral scarf is my attempt to add some kindof colour into my
black & white wardrobe this spring.
or perhaps its just the swedish girl who lives inside me dreaming of pairing it with a beat up tee, ballet bun, bandage skirt & plimsolls...

1.01am

if only my room were so perfectly messy.

im off to ikea tomorrow hoping to check a few things off my list.

faux orchids for my makeshift garden table desk, more affinia 50 smelling candles, crisp white sheets, an array of black frames for editorials, a pair of clothing racks

now ive just got to decide what item from my recent charity shop scour to wear for a possible 'outfit post' photoshoot after having my hair cut in the morning, downtown at the most gorgeously modern minimalist decorated salon...

i leave in five hours.

and the atmosphere is charged.

another sleepless weekend on the dancefloor passed.
drink & drown.
ive still got the black x's & armband to prove it.
one vintage mens buttondown found, one staring session over cupcakes
at a girl who looked just like dree hemingway.
innocently crushing over faye dunaway in the seventies,
staying up til dawn laughing til we cried.
wearing the dress i never thought i'd live the dream in. falling asleep atop white sheets & all.
waking up too late with sootier eyes, cigarette scented hair back in a bun,
stumbling to the sounds of yelle & robyn.
before throwing it all back in a beyond retro tote & heading home again.
coffee aids a headache.
another sleepless weekend on the dancefloor done.

1976.

This is a beautiful picture of me, my brother and my mum and dad outside our house in Ireland in 1976. My mother was amazing-looking; she was tall with really great legs. I think she looks the absolute spitting image of me now in this picture. I even recently had a blonde bowl-cut exactly the same as she has here. As a child she would dress me classically in velvet dresses, plaid and Arran jumpers. There was one green jumper in particular that I used to scream with tears whenever she tried to put it on me. That must have been my first fashion tantrum, aged six.

you look so fine, you look so hip, your style it makes me trip.

stylesightings

theres nothing like scrolling down one of your regular internet haunts & happening, unsuspectedly, onto a couple of streetstyle shots of your favourite style icon person ever.

i'm leaving, in just a few hours now, for a five day long roadtrip. already got my balenciaga filled to the brim with vintage & american apparel. oh, don't worry it's definitely not going to be as lovely as it may sound...

hopefully i'll find myself holed up in a couple coffeeshops
with time on my hands to update le blog.

until then,

always mad & usually drunk but i love her like no other.

with the possibility of a week long holiday next month, spent with my best friend who lives too many miles away, including on the agenda an already scheduled kings of leon show - i thought the best way to get introduced to a band i hardly know anything about was through someone i already know & love - lykke li & her cover of 'knocked up'.

finally a pair of looks that actually make me want to toss out my staple black tights & pashminas. replacing them instead with shimmering bare legs & necks with minimal jewellry.

the first, my favourite, is minimalist menswear perfection. with its casually rolled up sleeves & hems, oversized trousers & blazer both in sheer breezy fabrics set off only by a little cotton bra top exposing just the slightest bit of sunkissed skin.

im beginning to think that, at last, i am ready for spring.

thanks to a dreary thursday night & to boredom for forcing me to flick on the telly, onto which i landed on the always reliable classic film channel, i now have a new favourite. not to mention a new favourite muse as well & this time no menswear is in sight.
