a handy tip for the easily distracted.

i'm making this quick post because:
1) i am easily distracted
2) i've recently completely fallen for the magical Miranda July
and 3) this spring i'm making more resolutions; starting over and making a fresh start always seems to be easier when the weather follows suit. and my biggest challenge now is to put away all those distractions, turn my phone off and shut down the macbook and spend more time outside in my sun porch turned work space to read, write and study things like feminism and french just for the fun of it. it's my take on the slow movement. now go, be free, and be productive!

I completely agree with these your words : turn my phone off and shut down the macbook and spend more time outside in my sun porch turned work space to read, write and study things like feminism and french just for the fun of it. it's my take on the slow movement. now go, be free, and be productive!

I too try to do this, to study languages and write more but it goes slowly and hard because of internet and phone and school an so on...

I agree with everything you said above--those are wise words I try to apply to myself.
As for learning French, I feel the best way to learn a new language is to read a lot of things that interest you in that language. When I first started to learn English, I stopped reading translations. I read On the Road, and The Catcher in the Rye slowly, but I wanted to read them so badly I kept going. When you're comfortable enough with writing, having a language correspondant can also help. I'm currently casually corresponding with a girl to help her improve her French, and it seems to be working pretty well.
Anyway, good luck with keeping your resolutions, they really seem worth it! x
